Why I Love Halloween (Even in a State With No Fall)

Halloween has always been one of my favorite parts of the year. I get to dress up, eat chocolate without feeling guilty, and decorate the house and office with pumpkins, witches, and just enough spooky fun to make people smile.

And yes. I know. I live in Arizona, where “fall” is mostly a rumor. The temperatures don’t drop. The leaves don’t change. Pumpkin‑spice season arrives while we’re still running the AC.

But somehow, Halloween still feels like the beginning of something new.

There’s a shift. No, not in the weather, but in the energy. It’s the moment where the year starts winding down, priorities sharpen, and leaders quietly realize: Okay… Q4 is here. Let’s finish strong.

Halloween is my personal unofficial reset button. A chance to play, to laugh, to enjoy the season even if the season doesn’t look like the postcards. A chance to bring a little magic into the workplace before the end‑of‑year sprint begins.

And maybe that’s why I love it so much: It reminds me that fresh beginnings don’t require perfect conditions. They just require intention.

Even in Phoenix, where the pumpkins melt (or javelina’s eat them) and the witches need sunscreen, and the costumes have to allow for actual air flow, Halloween still marks the start of the home stretch. And I’m here for every bit of it, Pumpkin Spice Latte in hand.
